About

I figured I should say something covering the topic of "why." I don't know where to start but I will try. About what: Me Now My Projects the Name the Site

Brandon Comouche

Me Now
To start, my name is Brandon Comouche and I am 21 years old. I live in Western Washington about 40 minutes east of Seattle. I spend a lot of time doing various computer related projects or watching movies. Even though I spend much of time with computers, I enjoy many other activities - if it isn't dangerous, I probably enjoy it. I go to college full time at Bellevue Community College. I am taking a wide selection of courses relating to Computer Sciences there. I also work for a local credit union near my house as one of their IT guys.

My Projects
I work on a variety of little projects to keep me busy. I have enjoyed web development since 2001 and I started to learn about dynamic content like PHP in 2003. I have slowly been learning bits and pieces as I go. I have many on-going projects that I work on here and there. My projects include: graphic manipulation, video editing, computer building, basic programming, server configuration and more. More recently I have been working more with Linux trying to get more comfortable operating it.

The Name
I chose the name Valley Geek for a couple reasons.

One, I wanted a versatile name that I could use to reference almost any content. The name itself does not have a very descriptive meaning. I can put almost any content on this site and it would still make sense.

Two, I have considered myself a geek for a long time. I have been tinkering with computers since I was in elementary school and it has just stuck with me.

Three, I live in a valley called Snoqualmie Valley. It's not very original, but I thought it worked.

Four, I have never been good at making up names. My e-mail address use to be como_kid@*, where como was the first four letters of my last name. So this is a slight improvement I think.

Those are the main reasons. I wanted something short, easy to remember, and unique. Another person has .org, but I can live with that. I like .net the best anyway.

The Site
Why a web site and why put all this content here that no one will ever look at. For starters, I needed a project. I also have wanted a decent personal web page that I can reference if need be. Plus, I can share files or information with my friends and family.

Since I am personally hosing this site I can also make it easy for me to access some of my files remotely. I enjoyed configuring the server and testing it. The feeling of accomplishment after completing the set-up and seeing my work 'published' is always a pro. 98% of this site is hand coded by me. I did use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) for some of the typing. At this point I could not use an editor to assist with the publishing of the site. I have too much custom PHP code generating much of the content.

Most of the content on this site is original, I have borrowed ideas from other sources to structure some aspects of the site. The design and layout is original work created to cleanly display the content.
